Star-Bunny: Mostly I use these journals to quickly update my life... let people know how I'm doing but today's journal is going to be alittle different. I'm really frustrated with many of the artists on this site when it comes to comissions. I've heard countless artists b*tch and moan about how people want them to work for free or aren't willing to pay them enough. While I agree that people should be paid for their work, I also think that artists need to be realistic in what they are actually asking people to agree to. I was looking to comission a picture recently for a friend's b-day because I myself am not artistically inclined and I also don't have the time to put into drawing something myself. I found an artist, who had a pretty nifty style and had also posted several journals about how much they needed commissions. The artist was in their late teens and had never gone to art school but I thought what the hey... why not give them a chance. I noted them about commissioning them... and the reply I got actually blew me away with how arrogant it was. They wanted 60 bucks for an inked drawing of a single character (no color or background), on top of that I would not be recieving the original drawing or even a print out but an emailed copy... they also would retain the right to post the image in their gallery and resell the original to a third party. No offence but that's insane! Why would I pay someone a fair bit of money to draw ME something then not get the original and have them post the image all over the internet? Its insane, the artist was certainly not the best artist I've ever seen and certainly not worth the 60 bucks. Artists all over this site are begging for commissions but then both over charge and complain about the people actually buying their work. Alot of artists need to think how much their work is really worth and how much is a fair asking price. This website is a great tool for artists to build from, but they also need to stop taking for granted the people that are putting the money down to commision them. Most artists on this site are untrained and not recognized outside of this site. The person I was commissioning for is not part of this site and does not care how many page views you have! Outside of this site, alot of the artists are unknown, and while I agree with payment for services rendered... I also believe that the price should be equivalent to what the end product actually is. Any thoughts?

much appreciated ^^
